Types of Cabinet Hinges

cabinet door hinges

There are different types of hinges for cabinet doors. The choice of which to use will depend on what type of cabinet you would use it on. If your cabinet is a face frame cabinet, the appropriate hinges are overlay hinge, 3/8″ inset hinge and full inset hinge. Hinges for cabinet doors which are frameless may be full overlay hinge, half overlay hinge and full inset hinge. As such, the first thing to do is to determine the type of the cabinet door. The next step is to determine the overlay which refers to the relationship of the doors of the cabinet and its faces. The degree of the overlay would point to the specific hinge you would need. For example, if you have a cabinet that has doors which completely overlay the face frames, meaning, the doors completely cover the frames when you close it and that no rabbet can be found on the back edge of the doors, then you will need an overlay hinge.
